(There is also a filter to keep from copying these, but I haven't used it. Usually this happens with temp files that I don't actually need backed up. Either way, I can see the file that wasn't copied and can filter and/or fix the program so it can be copied, or by-passed if necessary. However, I don't see that as a limit to the software, but a limit for me as a non-expert user. (The error reporting may be a bit more complex for my needs.). Infrequently, there are errors that I can't understand. I also like the option for the program to send an email after each backup, confirming the back up, and alerting me if there are any errors. These jobs run automatically, set by the built in scheduler. I have separate storage folders that back up separately, and I also have jobs that backup entire hard drives - but only files that have changed, so it doesn't have to start from scratch each time. I have multiple jobs running, so I can back up certain sets of files to one drive, and others to another drive, all VERY customizable. I use the program to automatically backup various files to multiple backup hard drives, including cloud drives.

As for the operating system files, I have used my personal file back up more often, as if I have a problem with a computer, I do a fresh install of the Operating system (NOT from backup), and I have my personal files already backed up separately to install on the new install.įirst, GOODSYNC actually copies files faster than windows explorer. I have my main personal files in a separate location and those are the most important to have backed up in multiple locations.

The great benefit to this backup software to others that I have tried is the level of customization. In short, both do what GoodSync does, and both do it better: IDrive Business (opens in new tab) plans meanwhile offer another, company-focused dimension on its storage.GOOD sync is my favorite backup software! They're both capable of block level data transfer (which seems to be GoodSync's main selling point), and their applications are far more user friendly. IDrive goes the extra mile as it’s a zero-knowledge provider, giving users the best possible privacy for their data.

They offer full system backups and file synchronization, and both are incredibly easy to use. We recommend Backblaze (opens in new tab) and IDrive (opens in new tab). There are many similar services available in the cloud space. We did reach out to ask, but received a deflected answer, with no comment on zero-knowledge privacy. It's unclear if GoodSync is a zero-knowledge provider. GoodSync offers industry-standard AES-256 encryption for your files, both in transit and at rest. However, it isn’t possible to generate a shareable link with a selection of user permissions. In addition, you can share files with other users, but this is only possible through GoodSync's desktop web application. You can upload files from your smartphone, tablet, and desktop, and can access them across multiple devices. For better file management, we imagine most users will prefer to use one of the integrated services instead. Sadly, GoodSync's file synchronization service lacks features such as real-time collaboration and link sharing, nor is it user-friendly. GoodSync allows users to back up files to external cloud services, and the list of third-party cloud options is extensive, and includes Google Drive and OneDrive (opens in new tab). We can confirm all automated updates were accurate and remained on schedule. We were also able to program automated daily and weekly backups.

We programmed GoodSync to update all edited files automatically, eliminating the time it takes to do manual updates. This feature is ideal for anyone managing large numbers of files on their system.īeing able to transfer data in real-time made our workflow much more fluid.
Having the ability to transfer portions of data rather than full files means GoodSync provides shorter backup times and better performance.
